After the January incident, the media and social networks spread false information that inside the building of the La-155/18 pre-trial detention center there is a basement for torture of detainees.
The pre-trial detention center in Almaty is designed for 1,360 people. However, in January, the number of prisoners under investigation exceeded 1,400. In January, due to the special conditions that have developed, a temporary isolation unit with 200 seats was opened.
Due to disseminated information
Members of the public Control Commission for Almaty and Almaty region and the prosecutor's Office of Almaty visited the La-155/18 pre-trial detention center. A tour of the territory of the pre-trial detention center, regime buildings and basements was carried out. On the territory of the UIS institution there is a two-story administrative building and 6 regime buildings of 4-5 floors. These regime buildings have semi-basement rooms for communication systems and heating units. Access to these premises is carried out from the outside of the enclosures. Admission of applicants to the institution is carried out on the first floor of the regime building.
According to the results of the inspection of the buildings, no specially equipped chambers and premises were identified.
It should be noted that criminal liability is provided for the dissemination of deliberately false information under Article 274 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
