The Role of Books in the Lives of Convicts: Event Dedicated to Book Day

Institution No. 9 of the Department of the Penal Correction System for the Aktobe Region organized an event within the framework of the “Reading Without Borders” project, dedicated to April 23 — National Book Day, in cooperation with the Municipal State Institution “City Centralized Library System.”

This project is regarded as an important area of educational and preventive work with convicts and is aimed at shaping life values, developing intellectual potential, and promoting successful social adaptation after release.

During the event, participants discussed the importance of books in human life and their influence on the spiritual development of the individual. The participants read excerpts from literary works, exchanged opinions, and shared impressions of the books they had read. In addition, library staff organized a book exhibition on various topics and provided recommendations on literature selection.

The meeting was held in an open and informal format. Participants showed active involvement and expressed their interests and views. Such events contribute to the effective organization of convicts’ leisure time, enrich their spiritual world, and encourage the development of a law-abiding lifestyle.
