At Correctional Facility No. 8 in Aktobe Region, competitions in national games were organized among inmates serving their sentences.
As the saying goes: “The national game is the people’s heritage.” The purpose of this sporting event was educational — to foster interest in national traditions among inmates and to provide meaningful leisure activities. The competitions lasted for two days.
The event was supported by the director of the regional youth sports school “Sazdy” and featured the participation of respected and experienced masters of sports from the city.
On the first day, competitions were held among eight teams in asyk atu, lenggi, and togyzkumalak. A distinctive feature of this year’s event was the inclusion of the ancient Kazakh national game Tayak Tartu. This game has long been considered a test of strength and agility: two players sit facing each other and pull on the same wooden stick in opposite directions. The winner is the one who manages to pull the opponent toward themselves or move them from their position.
Inmates who showed active participation and won prizes were awarded medals and received memorable gifts from the “Sazdy” youth sports school.
