Members of the Commission on Legality, Law and Order, and Anti-Corruption of the Public Council of Aktobe Region, together with the Representative of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the region, organized public monitoring of the penal institutions.
The main purpose of the monitoring was to assess the conditions in places of deprivation of liberty, ensure the protection of prisoners’ rights, and study issues related to their employment.
In particular, the monitoring focused on the following areas:
• conditions of detention in correctional facilities;
• opportunities for employment of convicted persons;
• the level of protection of prisoners’ rights.
Members of the Public Council visited correctional facilities №70, №8, and №9, where they familiarized themselves with the living conditions of inmates, their employment, medical services, and the safeguarding of their rights.
During the visits, a number of pressing issues were raised, and possible solutions were discussed. The members of the commission emphasized the need to submit these issues for consideration to the relevant state authorities.
Based on the results of the public monitoring, a special report will be prepared and recommendations developed. These proposals aim to strengthen the protection of prisoners’ rights, improve conditions in penal institutions, and facilitate the successful reintegration of inmates into society.
