On August 28, 2020, Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Information and Social Development Yerzhan Nukezhanov participated in an online workshop titled "Central Asian Dialogue on the Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Persons Returning from Zones of Terrorist Activity (Syria and Iraq)", which runs from 27 to August 29.
Representatives of international organizations, the US Ambassador to Kazakhstan, colleagues from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic participated on the first day of the event. The parties discussed the issues of rehabilitation of women and children returned from combat zones.

It was noted that the Ministry involved 59 specialists from the “Akniet” centre and local executive bodies (42 theologians and 17 psychologists) to tackle the problems of deradicalization and theological and psychological rehabilitation of returned citizens. As a result, the overwhelming majority of them abandoned radical ideology, and a certain part switched to a secular lifestyle or began to abide by the norms of traditional Islam.
Recall that humanitarian operation "Zhusan" aimed at returning our citizens from the zones of terrorist activity was conducted in 2019. As a result of the operation, a total of 595 citizens were repatriated to the country, most of whom are women and children.
