On August 12, 2020, Vice Minister of Information and Social Development Marat Azilkhanov met with the Chairman of the Religious Administration of Kazakhstan’s Muslims, Supreme Mufti Nauryzbay kazhy Taganuly.

The meeting discussed the functioning of religious buildings in the context of the weakening of quarantine. Supreme Mufti noted that if mosques are opened, services will be carried out in compliance with sanitary norms. In turn, Vice Minister noted that the RAKM should prepare a unified procedure for mosques aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus infection.

M. Azilkhanov stressed the need for further cooperation between the state and religious associations, especially in the face of such global challenges as the pandemic. Vice Minister thanked the Chairman of the RAKM for the understanding with which the believers reacted to the necessary quarantine measures, and for aiding the state in explaining among the parishioners the importance of observing sanitary and epidemiological norms.

On his part, Supreme Mufti thanked Vice-Minister for the support provided by the Ministry during the Kurban Ait holiday, which took place from July 31 to August 2 earlier this year.

Recall that with the assistance of the Ministry, Religious administration launched a special website Qurban2020.muftyat.kz, thanks to which citizens were able to make a donation remotely. In general, over 80 thousand people in need received sacrificial meat during the holiday in Kazakhstan.

The parties also discussed issues of conducting explanatory work among citizens who have fallen under the influence of destructive religious movements.
