Nurlan Yermekbayev meets with the Supreme Mufti Serikbay kazhy Oraz

Today, Minister of Religious Affairs and Civil Society of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nurlan Yermekbayev, met with the chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan, the Supreme Mufti Serikbay kazhy Oraz.

During the meeting, issues of interaction between the authorized body and the SAMK were discussed, concerning the clarification of the norms of legislation in the field of religion among the population and the intensification of joint work on countering religious radicalism.

Nurlan Yermekbayev drew attention to the need to implement a new mechanism for conducting special outreach among adherents of radical religious movements.

“An important direction of our policy in the religious sphere is to oppose the activities of destructive religious movements. As the Head of State noted, we must form zero tolerance for any religious radicalism. This places great responsibility on all of us,” the Minister emphasized.

In addition, the meeting touched upon the continuation of joint work between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Civil Society of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan in the framework of the cooperation agreement.

The parties note the need for restructuring advocacy work, improving the level of imams’ skills, a systematic and thoughtful approach to the construction of religious buildings, personnel policy.

At the end of the meeting, the parties noted the importance of joint efforts in enhancing efforts to maintain stability and harmony in the country.
