A center for rehabilitation of victims of religious extremism and adherents of destructive cults has opened in Almaty. The main focus of his work is not on repressive measures, but on popularizing the spirituality and morality, the mildness and peacefulness of Islam.
The purpose of the center is to create a tolerant self-awareness among the population, to show zero tolerance to the challenges of religious extremism, to provide theological, psychological, legal and practical assistance in the rehabilitation of victims of religious extremism and those affected by destructive religious cults.
Director of the center Ruslan Kairgeldy told about the current activities of the center. According to him, law enforcement officials send to the center identified by them carriers of radical views. These are mainly young people aged 15-28 who do not have a religious education, who are also drawn into the activities of extremist groups, providing material assistance and thus making them dependent.
In the center, they are interviewed, explaining the essence of radical groups by comparing them with the verses of the Koran and hadith, the history of Islam, pointing out specific facts and evidence to show their true face and expose their pseudo-Islamic character. Currently, 186 people are undergoing rehabilitation at the center.
