The role of religion in the fight against corruption was discussed at a round table

The round table on the topic “Spirituality and morality in the formation of universal rejection of corruption” was held by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Civil Society together with the Agency for Civil Service and Anti-Corruption of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Development Program in Kazakhstan.

The purpose of the event is to consolidate the efforts of religious associations and governmental bodies in the fight against corruption.

Reading his report, the Chairman of the Religious Affairs Committee of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Civil Society, Yerkin Ongarbayev, noted that an effective way to prevent corruption is to educate a person in the spirit of national traditions, where such moral principles as honesty, justice, and decency are common to all.

“In every world and traditional religion there are instructions for believers that regulate a person’s life, pointing to its ethical standards,” E. Ongarbaev emphasized.

According to the head of the Committee, Islam absolutely rejects corruption. The Qur'an and Hadith have many moral teachings, according to which it is the duty of every Muslim and the entire Muslim Ummah to expose corruption and rid society of it. It is forbidden in the Bible to take and give bribes in order to pervert justice and rule of law; there is a direct ban on what is now called corrupt behavior.

The event was attended by the heads of religious denominations, deputies of the Parliament, heads of governmental bodies and organizations.
