Dear colleagues!

Dear colleagues!

On July 1 of this year, a new Environmental Code came into force in Kazakhstan. During its development, the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a large-scale discussion with the public and the business community, more than 20 trips to the regions were made. All this made it possible to form a fundamentally new document in accordance with the approaches of the OECD member countries.
The new Eco-Code is aimed at taking preventive measures to prevent a negative impact on the environment. One of its effective tools will be the introduction of the best available technologies (hereinafter referred to as BAT).
For the current largest polluters, this transition will be gradual, within 10 years, in accordance with the environmental efficiency program. The Ecocodex project also provides for mandatory automation of industrial environmental monitoring for objects of the first category with the transfer of data to the authorized body, new approaches to environmental impact assessment (EIA), etc.
The new reading of the Environmental Code provides for the principle of "the polluter pays". According to the updated draft law, sanctions for violation of the requirements for the management of production and consumption waste are planned to be tightened.
It is important to note that the main objectives of the Code are to strengthen the rule of law in the field of environmental protection, as well as the introduction of progressive mechanisms of environmental regulation based on international experience and the technical and economic capabilities of the country.
