On November 4, the Ministry held an online meeting with the population of the North Kazakhstan region to discuss the region's ecology.
"Such problems as the presence of spent uranium deposits in the region, the limited life of the MSW landfill in Petropavlovsk, the deterioration of sewage facilities in villages, and air pollution with hydrogen sulfide in Petropavlovsk need to be addressed," said zulfukhar Zholdasov, Chairman of the environmental regulation and control Committee.
Ivan Turkov, Deputy Governor of the region, spoke in more detail about the environmental situation and the measures taken: "Work is underway to reduce emissions to the environment and introduce ventilation and dust and gas cleaning technologies. Emissions are also gradually reduced with the introduction of environmental measures."
The Chairman of the Committee presented a draft Roadmap for solving environmental problems in the region, consisting of 15 points. It includes such major activities as installing a wind power plant, increasing the area of forests, building new solid waste landfills, upgrading treatment facilities, and preserving uranium mines. Taking into account the public opinion, the Roadmap will be finalized and approved within two weeks.
Zulfukhar Zholdasov instructed the local Department of ecology to hold a quarterly reporting meeting with the population on the implemented activities of the Road map.
Over the next two days, similar meetings will be held with the public of the Turkestan and Akmola regions and the city of Shymkent.
Today, the public is more active and concerned about the environmental situation. That is why this meeting has become a good platform for discussing the draft Road map.
