According to the Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as the Code) dated January 2, 2021 No. 400-VI ZRK, the planned activities of individuals and legal entities related to the construction and further operation of production and other facilities, with other kinds of interference in the environment, including through subsurface use operations, as well as making significant changes to such activities, are subject to environmental impact assessment.

According to subparagraph 2 of paragraph 5 of Article 68 of the Code, if the initiator submits a statement on the planned activity containing all the necessary information, the authorized body sends a copy of it to the relevant interested state bodies.

Interested state bodies are understood to be the departments of the authorized body in the field of environmental protection, the authorized body in the field of health, state bodies whose competence includes regulation of one or more types of activities included in the planned activity, issuing permits or receiving notifications for such activities, as well as local executive bodies of administrative-territorial units that are fully or partially located within the affected territory.

In accordance with subparagraph 2 of paragraph 5 of Article 68 of the Code and paragraph 6 of Annex 2 to the Order of the Acting Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated August 20, 2021 No. 337, the Department of Ecology for the West Kazakhstan Region (hereinafter referred to as the Department) sends for consideration an Application on the planned activities of the Kazakhstan branch of JSC "Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V." dated October 22, 2021 No. KZ46RYS00173464 (hereinafter referred to as the Application).

At the same time, we ask you to submit comments and suggestions to the above Statement to the Department by November 8 of this year.
