Who can obtain refugee status in Kazakhstan?
If you are a foreigner who left your country and cannot return for fear of being persecuted.
These risks can be based on a well-founded fear persecution for reasons of belonging to a particular race, religion, citizenship, nationality, political opinions, or membership of a particular social group.
For obtaining refugee status an asylum seeker with in 5 calendar days from the date of arrival in the Republic of Kazakhstan or from the day when he while on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan learned about the occurrence of circumstances related to the fear of becoming a victim of persecution submits personally or an authorized representative a written application for granting him refugee status in the Republic of Kazakhstan in accordance with the approved form.
The application must be accompanied by documents certifying or confirming the identity of the asylum seeker and photographs 3x4 cn (4 pieces).
The application is accepted from family member who has reached the age of 18. The application is filled in Russian or Kazakh.
If the applicant cannot independently fill out the application in Russian or Kazakh then the application is filled in by an interpreter according to the applicant. In this case a written statement from the applicant is required that he is satisfied with the quality of the translation.

When crossing the state border of the Republic of Kazakhstan the asylum seeker submits a written application to the misrepresentation control point and in the absence of such a point on the same day to the employees of the Border Service of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan who will nofity the Authorized Organization.
What result?
On the day jf receipt of the application from the applicant as well as the application of the person received from the Border Guard Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan the employees of the Department within one working day following the receipt of the application register the application and start an electronic file of the asylum seeker in the automated information system.
On the day of registration of the application the applicant is issued a certificate of an asylum seeker in the Republic of Kazakhstan and is registered.
The asylum seeker`s certificate the legality of the stay in territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan of a foreigner a stateless person applying for his recognition as a refugee.
The certificate is issued to us for a period of 3 months before a decision is a made on his application. During the application procedure asylum seekers will have to undergo a medical examination at a medical institution at the place of registration, as well as an individual interview to determine whether there are international protection needs.
