State symbols are one of the unshakable foundations of the state. The blue flag with a golden sun and a golden eagle hovering under it, the coat of arms is an image of shanyrak, as a symbol of a common home for all Kazakhstanis and the national anthem "Menin Kazakstanym" revealed to the world the image of a new Independent state called the Republic of Kazakhstan. In early 1992, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet issued a resolution on the creation of a working group to prepare new state symbols. In accordance with it, a special creative commission was formed and a competition was announced for the development of projects for the Coat of Arms, Flag, and Anthem. The contestants faced a difficult task. State symbols must meet not only aesthetic requirements, but also bear historical, political, and economic symbolism. It was necessary to find an artistic solution that would most vividly embody the political essence and goals of the young sovereign state. The state symbols of the Republic of Kazakhstan were adopted on June 4, 1992.
The authors of the Coat of Arms are well-known architects Zhandarbek Malibekov and Shot-Aman Ualikhanov. The author of the Flag is a designer and artist, Honored Artist of Kazakhstan Shaken Niyazbekov. The author of the Anthem's music is composer Shamshi Kaldayakov, the text was written by Zhumeken Nazhimedenov and the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev.
A special role in the process of adopting State symbols was played by the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy N. A. Nazarbayev. Having made separate amendments to the text of the National Anthem that meet the ideals and goals of the country's development, he joined the united team of authors. Elbasy paid special attention to the use of terms in the Kazakh language. On his initiative, the official terms "eltanba", "anuran", "nyshan, ramiz"were introduced.
