In the West Kazakhstan region, 15 hydraulic structures must be restored by the spring flood

The amount of snow that has fallen is extremely small – and big water is not expected in the region. However, the employees of the Emergency Department believe that in the first decade of March, when the thaw begins, flooding of settlements located in low places is possible. To avoid a large-scale meltwater spill, 474 thousand cubic meters of snow have already been removed from the populated areas and 1,150 cubic meters of water have been pumped out.

In general, 1.5 billion tenge is laid in the reserve of the region for preparing for the flood. To eliminate the consequences of an emergency situation in the spring period, the personnel of the Department of Emergency Situations of the WKO in the composition of 259 were prepared. There are 734 units of equipment available, 45 watercraft and other equipment are at the disposal of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

This was announced by the deputy head of the regional Department for Emergency Situations, Lieutenant Colonel Arman Tokpanov, at a conference call in the building of the Akimat of the West Kazakhstan region.

He noted that, according to the forecast of "Kazhydromet", in February, March, April, heavy precipitation is expected in the region. This is a dangerous gidrometeorologicheskoi phenomenon. Snow mixed with a thaw is fraught not only with heavy ice. According to Arman Tokpanov, due to heavy snowmelt in the first 10 days of March, there may be a threat of flooding.

– In connection with the prevention of emergency situations in the Department of Emergency Situations, a meeting of the commission was held, orders were sent to the responsible structures. This year, more than 474 thousand cubic meters of snow were removed from the settlements. About 1,150 cubic meters of meltwater were pumped out. On the roads of the region there are 1578 drainage channels, they are surveyed. As a result, 46 places of possible flooding of roads were identified. This situation is the focus of the agencies responsible for road maintenance. Of the 59 hydraulic structures in the region, 15 require restoration work. Currently, a supply of fuel and lubricants, bags, and inert materials is being prepared to combat flooding of the residential sector and roads, " Arman Tokpanov said.

Governor of the region Gali Eskaliyev stressed that special attention should be paid to flood control measures at the Uzunkol reservoir, near the village of Zhana Omir in the Terekta district and in the village of Vetelki.

- Uzunkol reservoir was repaired almost 5 years ago. Last year, a malfunction of the equipment on the storage device was detected, there is a small water discharge. But in 2021, we plan to repair everything, " said Arman Utegulov, the mayor of the Terekty district. – Currently, the water level in the storage is very low, for the winter period it is about 3-4 million cubic meters of water. The total storage capacity is up to 90 million cubic meters. Therefore, I think that there will be no sharp rise in water here.

The mayor of Uralsk, Abat Shynybekov, said that the situation in Vetelki is under control, all channels of meltwater drainage have been examined, and there is a readiness for flooding in this locality.

– I instruct the regional Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management to check the quality of all hydraulic equipment in the region. According to the Department of Emergency Situations, some hydraulic engineering facilities are in poor condition. In this regard, the mayors of the districts need to approve the responsible employees who will take control of such facilities. If repair works on hydroelectric facilities are necessary, they need to be carried out, - the governor of the region Gali Iskaliyev summed up.
