Senators approve Convention aimed at strengthening aviation security

According to the Minister for investment and development of Kazakhstan Zhenis Kasymbek, the purpose of this project is to establish criminal liability for persons who have committed illegal acts in the field of civil aviation.

"These acts are: committing an act of violence against a person on Board the aircraft and at the airport, placing devices and substances on Board the aircraft that can destroy it and disable it, transporting and ejecting explosive, radioactive, toxic, biological, chemical materials and substances from the aircraft, destroying the aircraft in flight, destroying equipment at the airport," Zhenis kassymbek said, speaking to senators.

Also, such acts are considered to be reports of deliberately false information that creates a threat to the safety of the vessel, the use of an aircraft as a weapon, etc.

The criminal code of Kazakhstan already provides for criminal liability for these acts.

The adoption of these provisions of the Convention will allow us to comply with the requirements of the UN Security Council in terms of countering terrorism, as well as to respond properly to threats to the safety of civil aviation.
