Today, in the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Minister for investment and development Zhenis Kasymbek presented a draft law "on ratification of the Convention for the suppression of unlawful acts in respect of international civil aviation".

According to the Minister, the proposed bill is aimed at implementing the decision of the 38th session of the Assembly of the international civil aviation organization (ICAO), which calls on all ICAO member States to sign and ratify this Convention.

"The purpose of this project is to establish criminal liability for persons who have committed illegal acts in the field of civil aviation. These are: committing an act of violence against a person on Board the aircraft and at the airport; placing devices and substances on Board the aircraft that can destroy it and disable it; using the vessel, transporting and discarding explosives, radioactive, toxic, biological, chemical materials; destroying the aircraft in flight; destroying and damaging equipment at the airport; reporting false information that creates a threat to the safety of the vessel; damage to air navigation facilities; use of the aircraft as a weapon, " Zhenis Kasymbek said .

The criminal code of Kazakhstan already provides for criminal liability for these acts. The adoption of these provisions of the Convention will allow us to comply with the requirements of the UN Security Council in terms of countering terrorism, as well as to respond properly to threats to the safety of civil aviation.
