Large-scale work is underway in Atyrau region to improve the quality of water supply and sanitation

The head of the region, Serik Shapkenov, spoke about these projects at a press conference at the Central Communications Service under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Press Service of the Akim of the region reports.

In general, 99.8% of the region's population is provided with clean drinking water. This year, 18.9 kilometers of water pipes have been laid in the villages of Konyrauly, Akkora in the Kyzylkoga district and the settlement of Bala Oraz in the Makhambet district. Along with this, the construction of a water pipe with a total length of 61.7 kilometers to the settlements of Atambayev, Kozdikara, Esmakhan in the Makhambet district is being completed.

“Despite the consequences of the floods, systematic work is underway to provide the population with high-quality drinking water. For example, the modernization of filtration station No. 5 with a capacity of 50 thousand cubic meters is being completed in the city. Next year, the construction of filtration station No. 6 will begin, which will purify 60 thousand cubic meters of water per day. In addition, we have begun replacing 60 kilometers of water lines in the city. Now half of them have been replaced with plastic. We will complete the remaining 30 kilometers next year. Along with this, we are modernizing 40 kilometers of the sewer network, which has not been repaired since the 50s. To date, work has been completed on 17 kilometers,” S. Shapkenov said.

Also in Atyrau, sewerage stations that have not been repaired since 1945 are being updated. Today, work is underway in the city at nine pumping stations. Of these, five will be completed by the end of the year. In addition, design and estimate documentation is being prepared for the reconstruction of 36 stations.

“This year, 14 pumping stations have been repaired in the city of Kulsary. In the village of Akkystau, Isatay district, a sewage treatment plant is being built. And in Makhambet, Isatay, Kurmangazy districts, 16 WWTPs are being built. - One of the most important problems that worries Atyrau residents is the sewerage system in the microdistricts. The number of complaints from residents increases during precipitation. There is also soil salinity. To solve this problem, design and estimate documentation was developed for 22 sites for connecting the city of Atyrau and its settlements to the centralized sewerage system. After the commissioning of the WWTP in the right-bank part of the city, the connection of microdistricts will begin in 2026. This will take five years. The work will be done in stages,” S. Shapkenov said.
