Yerik Mostovoy will help increase number of houses connected to central sewerage system

The drainage channel Yerik Mostovoy, built in Atyrau more than twenty years ago, has not been used for its intended purpose all this time. One of the reasons is the shallowness of the Zhaiyk River, for the diversion of flood waters of which the canal was intended. Over the past decades, Yerik Mostovoy has turned into a sump for rain and melt water, has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes in the summer, in addition, a place of accumulation of household waste - all this had a negative impact on the ecological situation in the city.

Akimat of the region intends to solve the problem of the drainage channel and find its use. Last Saturday, Akim of the region Serik Shapkenov, Akim of the city Meyirim Kalaui and Deputy Akim of the region Kairat Nurtayev visited the site. After consulting with scientists, the regional leadership intends to start design work on the reconstruction of the canal. It is planned that drainage and sewer communications, as well as summer water supply, will be laid along the bottom of the canal. On the surface, it is planned to build bicycle and pedestrian paths, install street lights, benches, etc. It is assumed that in addition to solving communal problems, the updated drainage channel will help reduce groundwater levels. One of the main advantages of the project under consideration is that due to the channel in the city it will be possible to increase the length of sewer communications, which will allow connecting 70-80% of private sector houses to the central sewerage system.
