Atyrau hosted opening of "Atyrau Chess Festival"

Akim of the Atyrau region Serik Shapkenov took part in the solemn ceremony, the Press Service of the akim of the region reports.

Head of State Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev sent a congratulatory letter to grandmaster Dinara Saduakasova, who organized the international chess festival in Atyrau for the first time.

The organizer of the festival is the chess academy, founded in 2019 by the Asian women's classical chess champion Dinara Saduakasova.

It should be noted that officially chess sport in the region began to develop in 1984, with the opening of sports schools. Today, 18,355 people are engaged in chess in the region, including 11,330 people in rural areas.
