Serik Shapkenov: The Yerik Mostovoy channel does not cope with the tasks assigned to it

Akim of the Atyrau region Serik Shapkenov shared his opinion on his page on the social network about the problem often raised in recent years by residents and activists of the region.

According to him, the construction of the 15-kilometer-long canal began in the early 2000s. But it's not finished yet. The canal was planned to dry groundwater, lower its level and prevent flooding in case of heavy rainfall.

The head of the region wrote that before making a decision, residents can express their proposals on the future of the channel. Proposals can be sent electronically to:

Let us recall that earlier the townspeople, who had thoroughly studied the problem of this canal, suggested draining it and replacing it with a recreation area, where there would be a place and conditions for both cyclists and walkers.
