The primary goal of the national statistics reform is to enhance users trust

Stated today by the Chairman of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhandos Shaimardanov, at the DEMO DAY event of the Bureau of National Statistics.

Congratulating colleagues on the professional holiday, Statistics Day, the head of ASPR emphasized that national statistics have been working for the benefit of the people for over a century.

According to Zhandos Shaimardanov, the ambitious program for reforming national statistics announced last year is progressing steadily. The central focus of the development of Kazakhstan's statistical system for the next three years will be the digitization of the entire statistical production process. He also noted the support for these changes from the Head of State.

During his speech, the head of the agency mentioned that, to consolidate the proposed approaches, a draft law on state statistics and data management has been developed and submitted to the Mazhilis (Parliament) this year. Additionally, special attention is given to the use of alternative sources of information for timely response to rapidly changing conditions, such as indicators of transaction activity, freight volumes, electricity consumption, data from mobile operators, and other real-time indicators.

"All this will directly or indirectly increase public trust and engagement by saving time and money, reducing the burden on respondents, increasing the value of data, and better conveying this value to citizens," noted Zhandos Shaimardanov.

The DEMO DAY event is attended by representatives from higher education institutions, the Institute of Economic Research, the business community, the Data Management Professionals Community (DAMA Kazakhstan), and others. During the event, the Bureau of National Statistics will present current projects and the transformation process as part of the reform and digitization of statistical agencies.
