International Forum “Digital Transformation of National Statistical Systems” launched in Astana

The international forum “Digital Transformation of National Statistical Systems” opened today in Astana, marking the 105th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s state statistics system. More than 150 delegates are participating, including heads and representatives of statistical offices from China, Singapore, Georgia, Hungary, Indonesia, Serbia, and CIS countries, as well as representatives of the UN, UNECE, OECD, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UNIDO, UNFPA, government bodies, academia and experts.

The forum focuses on digitalization trends in statistics, data quality and value, and the application of big data and artificial intelligence in public administration.

Opening the plenary session, ASPR Chairman Aset Irgaliyev noted that since independence Kazakhstan has evolved from a planned-economy statistical system to one fully aligned with UN, OECD, IMF, and other international standards.

“Statistics remain a guarantor of openness and trust. This anniversary is not only about reflecting on achievements but also about defining new horizons. I am confident that, through international cooperation, Kazakhstan’s statistics will continue to contribute meaningfully to addressing global challenges,” - he emphasized.

Chairman of the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee Konstantin Laikam highlighted global challenges facing the statistical community.

“On behalf of the CIS Statistical Committee, I congratulate our Kazakh colleagues on this anniversary and thank them for the high level of organization and warm hospitality. Kazakhstan’s statisticians have accumulated valuable experience that will benefit all CIS countries,” he said.

The forum program includes sessions on digital transformation, data quality, big data, AI and user engagement.

Head of the Bureau of National Statistics Maksat Turlubayev presented the Bureau’s digital transformation vision.

“Our goal is to create a unified digital ecosystem for data collection, processing and analysis. This will enhance accuracy, responsiveness and transparency,” - he stated.

The forum is organized by the Bureau of National Statistics of ASPR in cooperation with the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee.
