Head of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms Aset Irgaliyev met with CEO of the Shanghai Data Exchange Tang Zifeng

A meeting was held in Astana between the Chairman of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan (ASPR) Aset Irgaliyev and the Chief Executive Officer of the Shanghai Data Exchange, Tang Zifeng. During the discussions, the parties explored prospects for bilateral cooperation in the development of the big data industry.

Chairman Aset Irgaliyev emphasized that Kazakhstan is committed to building a modern, resilient and digital data ecosystem that will serve as a foundation for public administration, innovation stimulation and the country’s overall competitiveness. To this end, the Bureau of National Statistics under ASPR is working on an initiative to establish a Data Exchange in Kazakhstan. The project aims to create conditions for a regulated data market, enable the use of alternative data sources in official statistics, and formalize data monetization processes.

“Today, relations between Kazakhstan and China are at a stage of active development. In this context, we are interested in exchanging experience to implement the project of establishing a Data Exchange in Astana. We believe this will be an important step toward building a digital ecosystem and expanding cross-border cooperation in the field of data,” – said Aset Irgaliyev.

In turn, CEO Tang Zifeng presented the key areas of activity of the Shanghai Data Exchange.

“Since its establishment in 2021, the Shanghai Data Exchange has been actively developing international data exchange mechanisms, building an open and standardized infrastructure. We welcome the opportunity to share experience and are ready to contribute to the creation of a modern Data Exchange in Kazakhstan,” – he  noted.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepening dialogue and cooperation.

The Shanghai Data Exchange is among the leading international players in the big data sector. It serves as a central platform in China for secure access to and trading of data. Since its launch in 2021, more than 2,700 data products have been registered on the platform, with transaction volumes exceeding CNY 1.1 billion in 2023.
