What to do if your bank account is blocked?

Blocking of a bank account is a situation that a bank client may face. Reasons for account blocking may vary from technical failures to suspicions of violation of the laws. Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market reminds you how to act in such cases.

Possible reasons for account blocking:

  • suspicion of fraudulent or unusual transactions (for example, large or frequent transfers, especially from abroad);
  • blocking at the request of government agencies (tax service, bailiffs, financial monitoring authorities);
  • technical failure or error in the bank's system;
  • entering an incorrect PIN code;
  • card expiration;
  • existing debts under taxes, alimony, loans and other obligations;
  • complaint about possible use of the account for fraudulent purposes.

What to do if the account is blocked?

If you find that access to your account is limited, first check notices in mobile application of the bank – the reason may be indicated there.

Contact the bank via the call center or go to the nearest branch for detailed information. Learn, what actions are necessary to restore the access.

Check for possible debt through eGov.kz or the taxpayer's account. If necessary, prepare and provide documents confirming the origin of the funds.

If the bank does not provide an explanation or does not take actions, you can file a complaint with the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market.

How to reduce the risk of blocking:

  • do not use your personal account for business activities;
  • notify the bank in advance of large transfers and other atypical transactions;
  • monitor relevance of personal data and expiry dates of documents;
  • regularly check for debts and repay them in a timely manner.
