How to protect gadgets from digital fraud

Fraudsters more often use citizens’ mobile devices as a channel to access financial information. Through malicious applications, fake links and fake notifications, attackers try to gain an access to online banking, CVV codes, logins, passwords and other confidential data. This can cause loss of money and personal information.

To ensure security, the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market recommends to:

  • install antivirus software and update it regularly;
  • download applications only from official sources (Google Play, App Store);
  • check permissions requested by applications and restrict access to contacts, SMS, microphone and screen;
  • not follow suspicious links from emails, messengers and push notifications;
  • use complex and different passwords for different services, use password managers;
  • not store photos of bank cards, passwords and electronic signatures on your phone;
  • enable screen lock, biometric protection and remote data deletion function if you lose your device;
  • not share codes, passwords and other confidential information over the phone or in messengers, even if the caller claims to be a bank employee or a law enforcement employee.

Additionally, we recommend to:

  • regularly update the operating system and installed applications, as updates contain important security patches;
  • monitor your financial transactions through bank notifications, set transaction limits, and be sure to use biometrics when logging into the banking application;
  • conduct cyber hygiene for the whole family: explain to your children and elderly relatives how to distinguish fraud from real notifications and how to resist social engineering.

If you have lost your device or suspect an unauthorized access:

  • immediately block bank cards, change all passwords and disable sessions in online banking;
  • contact law enforcement agencies;
  • if necessary - block the SIM card with the mobile operator.
