Phishing and fake websites: how not to avoid online fraudsters

Phishing is one of the most common types of online fraud. Its goal is to obtain your confidential data: logins, passwords, bank card details. Attackers create fake websites that outwardly completely copy official resources of banks, online stores and other popular services. Links to them are distributed via email, instant messengers, social networks.

What to pay attention to:

  • Website address. Fraudsters use similar domains: for example, name may contain an extra letter or number. Check if the address starts with https:// - this is a mandatory sign of a secure connection.
  • Design. Primitive design, errors in the text, broken links and sections are signs of a fake.
  • Data request. If a website asks you to enter your IIN, card number, CVV code or SMS password, it is most likely phishing. Banks do not request such information through websites.

How to protect yourself:

  • carefully check the website address before you enter your data;
  • install an antivirus with a phishing protection function;
  • never follow links from suspicious emails and messages;
  • do not enter personal data on unfamiliar or dubious sites;
  • use a separate virtual card for online purchases with a limited amount.

If you have become a victim of phishing, immediately contact the bank and the law enforcement agencies, block your card and change passwords.
