According to Igor Novikov, Acting Director of Medical Work at the Almaty Regional Multidisciplinary Clinic, vaccination against COVID-19 is recommended and safe for both current and former cancer patients.
"The available COVID‑19 vaccines, Sputnik V, EpiVacCorona, Pfizer and Moderna, do not contain a live virus, so they are safe even for people with weakened immune systems. Vaccines are also considered safe for people who are undergoing active cancer treatment. It is not recommended to get vaccinated directly during the course of chemotherapy, radiation therapy and 2 weeks after surgery. Patients receiving only hormone therapy are not vaccinated! In any case, the decision on vaccination is made by the attending physician, " the speaker emphasized.
In total, more than 15 thousand cancer patients have been registered in the Almaty region to date. As statistics show, unfortunately, 45 patients treated for cancer and tumors died from coronavirus infection.
