Аt the Forum of Educators "The Educational Future of Almaty: Promising Solutions in the New Reality", B. Sagintayev stated that 234 thousand students, including 66 thousand college students, study in 39 universities and 80 colleges of the metropolis.
It should be noted, that every fourth student in Kazakhstan studies at an Almaty university and every seventh college student in Kazakhstan receives technical and vocational education in Almaty.
“The city's economy needs, first of all, qualified workers and middle-level specialists in certain sections of industries specific to the region,” B. Sagintayev stressed.
In this regard, the state educational order in city colleges is placed in accordance with the needs of a particular industry, taking into account the prospects for their development. Therefore, this year, when distributing the state order, an emphasis was made on the development of the construction industry, IT-sphere, as well as small and medium-sized businesses, where the service sector prevails.
An important task of technical and vocational education is to reduce the proportion of young people in the NEET category, which is one of the conditions for colleges in the distribution of government orders.
To increase the availability of Vocational Education and Training, including for young people of the NEET category, the Akimat of Almaty over the past five years has increased the state educational order for the training of qualified specialists and brought it up to 11.2 thousand places.
“All these tasks can be solved by effectively implementing the "Zhas Maman" project, by re-equipping colleges, attracting highly qualified specialists from production, as well as creating an ecosystem based on universities and colleges,” the akim of Almaty emphasized.
The forum discusses issues of organizing the educational process in the new realities. Including ensuring sanitary safety in duty classes, organizing distance learning, providing teachers and students in need with computers and access to the Internet. Moreover, topical issues of providing places in kindergartens and schools and ensuring the availability of additional education are also being discussed.
