Safe Almaty: how the precinct stations in the city change

A police service model is being introduced in Almaty. Service means accessible to citizens who can turn to the defenders of law and order on all issues and with any problems.

As part of the new model, it is planned to open 30 modern precinct stations and 16 service centers in the megalopolis at the expense of the local budget, working on the principle of "walking distance" and aimed at establishing partnerships between the police and local residents. For the successful implementation of these projects, the Project Office at the Akimat of Almaty is actively working within the framework of the Safe City direction and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The first such precinct station (UPP) in Almaty opened in August of this year in the residential complex Alem City-1 in the Nauryzbay district. In this residential complex, video surveillance cameras have been installed in courtyards, entrances, as well as from adjacent territories, which allows law enforcement officers to monitor the security of the area around the clock.

"We set ourselves a number of important tasks. First of all, we strive to ensure safety in the city. This includes rapid response to incidents and crime prevention. Precinct stations are provided with communication facilities, video surveillance and databases for quick access to information. Thanks to this, we can quickly respond to challenges and effectively conduct investigations,"- said the head of the UMPS DP Almaty, police Colonel Yerzhan Uzabayev.

According to him, the location of the SCP in the center of the residential complex allows the district inspector to effectively interact with residents and keep abreast of the pulse.

"Another important goal for us is to establish fruitful relations with residents. We want Almaty residents to know that they can contact us at any time. To do this, we organize meetings with the public and participate in various events," he said, adding that local police officers undergo career guidance training at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

As for the service centers, they will reduce the level of tension and discomfort when citizens ask for help, relieve the city's police departments, as well as improve the efficiency of law enforcement. The police service centers will provide 55 types of free services, including consultations on migration, administrative legislation and other legal issues. Also, a psychologist and a mediator will work in them. The service centers have a reception, a waiting area, and a children's corner.

In the ATS system, precinct police inspectors represent the most multifunctional police service. They are a key figure in the prevention of offenses and crimes, ensuring public order, and the safety of citizens in residential neighborhoods and settlements. For 8 months of the current year, district inspectors uncovered 2 thousand 211 crimes, 63 thousand 811 offenses were detected. In general, crime in Almaty has been reduced by 27.8%.
