Almaty will become a regional hub of the leading South Korean medical concern Seegene in Central Asia

As part of a working trip to Seoul, Akim of Almaty Yerbolat Dosayev held a meeting with Chairman of the Seegene Medical Foundation (SMF) and Open Healthcare Inc. Cheon Chongyi. SMF is South Korea's leader in the medical diagnostics and laboratory research industry.

An important outcome of the discussions was the proposal to designate Almaty as a regional SMF hub in Central Asia. The South Korean company intends to invest about $30 million in the medical industry of Almaty. In particular, the prospects for the implementation of joint projects on the construction of a new clinic, modernization of clinical laboratories, study and implementation of the Korean model of healthcare in the management methodology of the polyclinic and the center for medical examinations at the level of first aid, as well as optimization of the procedure for processing registration data, development of self-diagnostic devices and telemedicine were considered.

"Today, all over the world, healthcare is gradually moving from a treatment model to a diagnosis. This is a more effective way to fight diseases and protect the health of citizens. As the pandemic has shown, the world is facing new challenges: those countries that are ready for them will be competitive, paying attention to equipping medical centers with modern laboratories and conducting research," Yerbolat Dosayev said.

The Mayor of Almaty expressed gratitude to Cheong Chongi and his colleagues for helping Almaty residents during the pandemic and the diagnosis carried out on COVID-19.

SMF Chairman Cheon Chongyi, in turn, noted that diagnostic testing from Seegene has proven itself positively during the pandemic. The highly efficient technology of the medical concern made it possible to conduct a high–quality mass analysis: 50% of coronavirus tests in South Korea and more than 60% of tests in Seoul were processed by one institution - the Seegene Medical Foundation. Thanks to the work of SMF, the mortality rate during the global pandemic in South Korea was recognized as the lowest compared to other countries.
