Almaty installations: how to decorate the city of Almaty on the City Day

Last weekend Almaty celebrated its birthday – the City Day. Throughout September, various concerts, festivals and sporting events were organized in the city.

In addition to concert events, it was possible to notice how our city was transformed for its birthday. Thanks to the creativity of Almaty artists and designers, Almaty looked especially festive and beautiful on its birthday.

So, we can highlight the square in front of the Palace of the Republic, where every resident and guest could go back in time and feel the atmosphere of the old Alma-Ata. Here you could also see the largest double-sided mosaic of Rubik's cubes, which got into the Guinness Book of Records, a red and white polka-dotted milk can and many other objects of the past.

Panfilov's main pedestrian street also stood out in design. The installation "Embrace of the Tulip" is located here, which invites you to come closer by all means. The author of this decoration is the artist Daria Moroz.

"At first it was just a drawing, but I wanted to revive it and turn it into an installation. We did everything, as always, in a very short time, but we managed to do it, and we are glad about it. I really wanted to do something special for Almaty, and the installation "Embrace of the Tulip" just reflects the atmosphere of our city – friendliness, friendliness, interaction of nature and the metropolis. A tulip is a symbol of nature, and a semicircle is a yurt, which is always associated with warmth and comfort, a home," the author of the work shares.

On Panfilov, you could also notice big apples with landscapes of Almaty, and some installations were completely surprised by their originality. One of them, the installation "Barbie", bearing the name Bibigul, in a large pink box. This name was suggested to the author of the work by her subscriber. The author of the work is the illustrator Mimi Ilnitskaya. The installation can be seen along Panfilov Street until the end of September.

"I wanted to dream up what this doll might look like if it was produced in Kazakhstan. I came up with a nomad doll and posted my drawing on social networks. People liked the idea very much, they started actively writing to me. I began to draw other images to show that the Kazakh Barbie can be very original. As a result, shortly before the City Day, representatives of the Department of Culture approached me and offered to turn my work into an installation," the author notes.

According to Mimi, work on a series of Kazakh Barbies will continue so that new dolls will delight residents and transform into installations.

As part of the Artbatfest street art festival, the famous artist Saule Suleimenova presented an installation in the form of cellophane painting. The twelve-meter sculpture of the author can be seen at the intersection of Abay Ave. and Bayseitova Str. As Saule notes, she is looking for poetry in plastic bags, and also raises the topic of recycling things. Her work is devoted to the matrix of cities, the interaction of the metropolis and its inhabitants. In front of the Lermontov Drama Theater, you can also see the work of Saken Narynov "The Tree of Life".

"Contemporary art should interact with the urban environment. The participants of the festival turn the metropolis into a huge open-air museum, where everyone can get acquainted with the works for free. It is very nice that our works have become part of the festive decoration for the City Day," says Vladislav Sludsky, art director of the Artbatfest festival.

Many themed photo zones and installations were also located in the park of the First President at the Apple Fest. Among them, Kazakh national patterns laid out of apples can be distinguished. Thanks to the organizers, the park looked creative, the concept of which reflected national traditions.
