Residents of the metropolis traditionally celebrate the City Day on the third Sunday of September. The celebrations began with the international contest "Almatym zhuregimde" on Abay Square, where the mayor of the city Yerbolat Dosayev addressed Almaty residents with congratulations.

"Almaty is called the "golden cradle" of Kazakhstan's independence, the city where the new history of our country began. The main value of our city is you, residents of Almaty. It is you who make it lively, diverse and hospitable. On this special day for us, I sincerely thank every Almaty resident for your contribution to the development of our metropolis," Yerbolat Dosayev said.

After the congratulatory speech, the head of the city awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of Almaty" to people who made a significant contribution to the development and prosperity of the metropolis. They included scientists, doctors, artists, public figures, such as the legendary vocal and instrumental ensemble "Dos-Mukasan"; famous artist Alpysbay Kazgulov, outstanding anthropologist Orazak Ismagulov, mathematician Askar Dzhumadildaev and others.

At the end of the official part of the event, the mayor of the city visited the Alma Fest festival in the park of the First President. A thematic installation "Hay Mill" was installed here. At the apple fair, 45 farms brought 125 tons of fruit, where every guest of the holiday could taste their favorite variety. Several activity zones have been deployed here: food courts, photo zones, children's, sports and an outdoor cinema viewing area.

On Arbat, the head of the city visited the festival of modern research ArtbatFest. The grace of unusual art objects on the promenade was transformed into a modern gallery under the open sky.
