By the public-private partnership, next year it is planned to begin a gradual modernization of 1,375 km of outdoor lighting lines, or 45 thousand lamps and 42 thousand pylons. Nowadays, gas-discharge lamps are being replaced with LED lamps, as well as the construction of new outdoor lighting lines on more than 200 streets in all parts of the city.
Only on the reconstructed avenues of Abay, Abylai khan and Nazarbayev this year more than 700 pillars were replaced using LED lamps. When modernizing urban spaces, special attention is paid to pedestrian areas where pavement lighting is installed.
At the same time, road lighting is updated not only on the central avenues, but also on the secondary streets of the city. For example, until the end of the year, 33 streets in Alatau, 64 streets in Auezov, 39 streets in Turksib, 12 streets in Bostandyk, 8 streets in Nauryzbay, 32 streets in Zhetysu and Medeu regions will be installed.
New lighting is also installed in nearly 1,400 renovated courtyards. Next year, another 600 old yards will be refurbished.
According to the Office of Energy and Public Utilities of the city of Almaty, LEDs are distinguished by lower energy consumption compared to incandescent lamps, greater durability and high color rendering, and also do not contain components harmful to the environment. To increase the reliability of the dispatching service and to avoid failures in the lighting control system, software was developed with a wide range of functions, including features such as setting up the on and off schedule, turning on and off the illumination of the entire city with one command.
The installation of architectural illumination of the city’s iconic objects continues in parallel. Recently, the architecture of the Kazakh-German University building has played with new colors.

In order to form a single architectural style of lighting buildings, structures and landscapes, more than 130 objects of the city were highlighted earlier. Among them are the Palace of the Republic, the Monument of Independence, the Memorial of Glory, the Kok-Tobe TV Tower, the Kazakhstan Hotel, the Abay State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, the Auezov and Lermontov Theaters, the Kasteyev and Ykhlas Folk Instruments, the Central Mosque and the Holy Ascension Cathedral. All projects are done with extrabudgetary funds.
