The speed of electric scooters was limited and the rules for their rental were changed

Due to numerous complaints from city residents about the unregulated movement of electric scooters and the lack of specific rules for their use, including parking, work was initiated by the Almaty Akimat to regulate the activities of electric scooter rental services.

As a result, meetings were held with representatives of the 4 largest companies that occupy 100% of the Almaty electric scooter rental market. During the discussions, an appropriate memorandum was concluded to ensure the safety of road users in Almaty.

According to the memorandum, the speed of electric scooters in the city is limited to 25 km/h with the help of applications, age requirements are tightened - only people over 16 years old will be able to rent electric scooters.

Operators will also ensure that electric scooters are not located in close proximity to subway entrances, near public buildings, on lawns, roadways and pedestrian areas. The city will also develop special parking lots. By the end of next year, the city plans to equip 3,000 parking spaces.

The new rules will come into force within one month from the date of signing the memorandum until August 15 of the current year.

Scooter rental services began to work in Almaty in 2018. Currently, there are 4 companies on the market (Ozim, Jet, Eleven, Whoosh), which provide 15,000 electric scooters for rent. Today, about 100 thousand trips are made in the city every day.
