From April 15, the medium repair of city streets will begin in Almaty

The average repair of streets will begin in Almaty from April 15. At the same time, construction works will not affect the work schedule and routes of public transport. To avoid traffic congestion, full road closure is planned only at night.

According to the information of the urban mobility department, the average repair of a 1 km-long street and a width of the carriageway up to 18 meters should be carried out no more than 15 days. In this case, the work must be conducted day and night.

In the daytime, sidewalks are being repaired, damaged irrigation ditches and curbs are being replaced, hatches are being raised with attraction of up to 30 people at the site. At night, in order to minimize the traffic jam, milling and laying of new asphalt is carried out.

At the same time, all contractors must install special barriers and walkways for the safety of citizens during the work, detour signs and passports with all contact information. Specific dates, number of equipment and workers have already been determined for each site.

Taking into account the adopted Action Plan to create a safe infrastructure and reduce mortality on the roads of “Almaty Vision Zero” during medium repairs, security islands will be created, pedestrian crossings, etc. will be built. Together with district executive committee, it is planned to upgrade the facades of adjacent buildings, dismantle unused structures, pillars, fences and illegal objects built with the seizure of pedestrian areas.

Earlier, Almaty’s governor Bauyrzhan Baybek ordered to break each section by date, number of people and equipment involved. Thus, work on the average repair will be completed on August 20. It should be mentioned that for the purpose of patching for the first time in the country, contracts were concluded on a PPP project for a period of 4.5 years with four companies. This measure will allow for more prompt repair and maintenance of roads in proper condition in the long term.

In general, this year the average repair of more than 120 streets is planned, new roads will be built on 456 streets in 14 microdistricts of the city. In addition, it is planned to reconstruct another 600 km of utilities and almost 700 old courtyards. In the countryside of the city, a number of parks, squares and pedestrian zones will be landscaped. In order to create a safe urban environment, new LED lamps will additionally be installed on more than 120 city streets.
