Akim of Almaty B. Sagintayev opened the II Almaty Film Festival

The festival will be held under the motto "Rapprochement of cultures." The main competition announced 12 films of 2019, which are co-products of two or more countries. The competition includes both films of co-production of countries that have already developed long-term partnerships and which were presented at international film festivals, as well as films of rare co-production.

Opening the festival, the city akim welcomed festival guests who came from more than 10 countries - Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Iran, the USA, Germany, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, China, India, South Korea, Italy, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Bangladesh , Portugal, Singapore, Palestine, Argentina.

 

“The festival is only two years old, but it rightfully took its respected place in the world calendar of film events. This is the merit of the founders of the event, such as Akan Satayev, who love cinema. Thanks to such enthusiasts, our city holds a festival that has become a decoration of the city, ”B. Sagintayev emphasized.

 

The head of the metropolis also noted that Almaty is a warm, cozy, creative city, and its residents appreciate and understand cinema. Such events contribute to the success of the city, which is the cultural capital of the country.

 

Out-of-competition programs such as Women in the Cinema jointly with UNESCO, the Family Cinema program jointly with the European Association of Children's Films ECFA, the "Bright Debuts" program and the winners of the "Ushkyn" Student Film Festival will be presented at the festival. The program "Special Event", within the framework of which new and retrospective films of famous world guests of the International Film Festival ALMATY FILM FESTIVAL, as well as unique gala premieres will be shown.

 

During the closing ceremony, 5 main categories will be awarded:

• Grand Prix of the film festival;

• Best director;

• Best actor;

• Best actress;

• Special jury prize

• Special UNESCO Prize.
