The National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan continues to search for and detain participants in mass riots and acts of terrorism, as well as to clarify the circumstances of the crimes committed.
On the territory of Almaty, two extremist cells were neutralized, the members of which actively participated in the riots from January 4 to January 8, 2022.
Today, special services detained 4 members of one of the cells, the leader of which were trained in foreign extremist centers. The detainees are suspected of committing mass illegal actions, leadership and participation in a banned extremist organization and recruitment into extremist activities.
During searches in their places of residence, firearms, traumatic and stun grenades, cartridges, religious literature and other material evidence were found and confiscated.
The leader of another group, a foreign citizen, actively participated in the riots and had links with foreign terrorist groups.
According to investigators, he purposefully arrived in Kazakhstan to prepare mass illegal actions and attacks on government bodies and law enforcement agencies. The search for his accomplices was organized.
Other information in the interests of the investigation is not subject to disclosure. Operational and investigative activities are ongoing.
Along with this, information disseminated in some media and social networks about the theft of weapons, ammunition and other property from the Department of the National Security Committee in Almaty does not correspond to reality.
The department is working in an enhanced mode, in accordance with the requirements of the "red" level of a terrorist threat.
