Y. Babakumarov informed about a sufficient reserve of places for COVID hospitals in Almaty
Speaking at a press conference of the Central Communications Service under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, deputy akim of Almaty, Yerzhan Babakumarov, spoke about the work of COVID hospitals in the megapolis in the conditions of the fourth wave of COVID and after its decline.

During the peak of the fourth wave, about 10 thousand infectious beds were prepared in Almaty, of which about 9 thousand were used. At the peak of the delta wave, their occupancy was up to 70%. The Akimat kept 1000 beds in reserve.

To date, the number of infectious beds in the city has been reduced to 3179, their occupancy is 41% (1342 patients are on October 6, 2021). This is GKIB named after Zhekenova, its branches on Degdara 10 street, and a modular hospital in the Sayaly microdistrict, DGIB with a branch in the Nauryzbay district, the Center for Phthisiopulmonology on Degdara 45 street, with a branch on Goncharnaya street, GKB No. 1, a branch of GKB No. 4 for 300 beds, located in the building of the dorm of the Humanitarian Pedagogical College.

“At the peak of COVID, we increased the number of intensive care beds to 730. Their occupancy during this period reached 70%. In total, 2030 patients were admitted to the intensive care unit of infectious hospitals in August, ”Babakumarov noted.

The deputy akim of Almaty stressed that in the intensive care units of the megapolis, the number of nonresident patients reached 33%.

As of October 6, 2021, 310 ICU beds were involved in Almaty, of which 54% are employed (172 ICU patients). Due to an increase in the number of infected, and a consistent increase in the number of patients in hospitals, an increase in the number of severe patients in intensive care, the number of deaths has increased.

“Now we see stabilization. In September, mortality among intensive care patients decreased by 18% compared to August. But the number of severe patients remains, this is due to the long stay of patients in the ICU - more than 1 month, ”said Y. Babakumarov.

At the peak of the incidence rate, there were about 15 thousand infected people at the home hospital, today their number is 3500 patients.

“Despite the pandemic, we tried to provide planned assistance to residents in full, using 9 non-COVID and 39 private hospitals, as well as 13 republican organizations. Now the multidisciplinary clinics have returned to their previous operating mode, ”Y. Babakumarov emphasized.

The Deputy Akim of Almaty also noted that thanks to the Stabilization Fund of Medicines and Medical Devices, created last year, the necessary stocks of 68 product names have been formed until May 2022.
“To date, 58.8 million pieces of medicines have been delivered to the city, 43.5 million pieces have been sold, 15.3 million pieces are in stock, including the minimum balance of 8 million pieces, or 40%,” Y. Babakumarov.

“On the whole, the health care system withstood and did not allow overheating, stocks of medicines and PPE were sufficient, there were no failures in supply,” Y. Babakumarov stated.
