Bauyrzhan Baybek checked the reconstruction of roads within the framework of Vision Zero
This summer, the average repair covered more than 140 city streets with adaptation of 56 roads to the peculiarities of pedestrian behavior. These are anti-pockets on stopping complexes, safety islands on a wide carriageway and safety capes in front of pedestrian crossings.
In general, 72 problem areas with a high accident rate were identified around the city with the active participation of citizens, where, by analogy with advanced megacities, it is planned to narrow the turn radius, increase the traffic light interval for pedestrians, move the stop lines, etc.
“We try to minimize the mortality rate on the roads of Almaty. It is human nature to make a mistake, therefore it is necessary to create a safe infrastructure that reduces the subjective factor. Considering that a pedestrian is the most vulnerable participant in the movement, priority is given to him, ”said Bauyrzhan Baybek.
In addition, construction of 100 new pedestrian crossings is planned. By popular demand of the townspeople, security islands that share a wide carriageway will be equipped at 50 stations. Near social and educational facilities, it was decided to organize elevated trapezoid crosswalks.
According to him, work will be systematically continued on the development of public transport, a network of bicycle paths with the installation of a physical barrier for separating automobile and bicycle traffic. Special attention will continue to be given to modernizing public spaces and creating a comfortable environment for people with special needs.
During the working visit, Bauyrzhan Baybek also made a number of observations on the improvement of Gogol Street. In the near future, the old wooden poles will be dismantled, the pillars of street lighting and a trolleybus network located close to each other will be united. In addition, he drew attention to the need for landscaping the street, dismantling various obstacles, installing outdoor furniture in shaded spaces.
