Vaccination is the only way to get back to your old life. Almaz Sharman, President of the Academy of Preventive Medicine of Kazakhstan, spoke about this at a briefing by the Regional Communications Service of Almaty. The scientist explained why it is important to create herd immunity in order to defeat the delta strain of the coronavirus.
According to Almaz Sharman, a virologist and member of the American Health Association, the whole world is entering a very critical phase in the fight against the coronavirus, as highly effective vaccines have been created that really help.
A. Sharman said that over the past day, over 6 thousand new cases of coronavirus infection have been registered in the country, the anti-record has been broken. Meanwhile, in Kazakhstan today, only 16% of the population is vaccinated with both components. This is very small and means that 85% of the population is not vaccinated. This is a favorable environment for the spread of the virus and mutations, which is effectively used by the delta variant of the coronavirus, which is extremely contagious.
According to the scientist, the "delta" strain is 50-60% more infectious than all previous variants of the coronavirus.
“Each infected person can transmit the infection to 5-6 people. Unvaccinated citizens are at risk. It must be remembered that the current version of the coronavirus is more contagious, but at the same time, there is a low percentage of vaccinated people in Kazakhstan. We are entering a very dangerous phase of a pandemic - the situation can be reversed with the help of vaccinations, ”said Almaz Sharman.
It is worth noting that, according to the Public Health Department, as of July 22, 670 351 people were vaccinated with component I in Almaty. Of the total number of vaccinated persons over 60 years old, there are 94,835 people.
There are 212 vaccination points in the city in medical organizations, schools, at cultural and sports facilities, in markets and in the city's shopping and entertainment centers (with the possibility of increasing to 250). 308 vaccination teams of 1,260 people were involved.
