A significant increase in the incidents of COVID continues in Almaty. The Chief Sanitary Doctor of the city Zhandarbek Bekshin announced this at a press conference of the Regional Communications Service.
According to Zh. Bekshin, over the past day in Almaty, an anti-record of this summer was recorded - 638 new cases of COVID-19. Since the end of June, there has been an increase in the daily incidence of more than 600 cases. It is caused by the spread of the Indian strain of the coronavirus.
“Since the beginning of this year, more than 60 thousand cases of coronavirus infection have been registered in the city. Since the beginning of July, 4,610 cases of COVID have already been registered, and over the past week, 3,085 cases have been registered, which is 1.4 times more than in the previous week, ”the Chief Sanitary Doctor of Almaty noted.
Zh. Bekshin emphasized that the "delta" variant is more infectious and causes severe clinical manifestations.
“As you know, studies have shown that the share of the“ delta ”variant in the total circulating variants of the coronavirus already dominates to a large extent, and amounts to 78-80%, in 16%“ alpha ”(British), in 3% - COVID- 19 (Wuhan) variants of the coronavirus ", - said Zh. Bekshin
Over the past 7 days, the proportion of "symptomatic" patients continues to grow by a factor of 2, that is, from 53% to 88%. The increase in the proportion of "symptoms" is associated with the prevalence of the more pathogenic variant "delta", which causes more severe clinical manifestations.
Zh. Bekshin spoke about the results of the monitoring of the epidemiological situation in Almaty. As the analysis showed, the age composition of the cases over the past two weeks showed the previous focus of the virus on children and young people. Children under the age of 14 are susceptible to infection in almost 13% of cases.
"The greatest concern is caused by the continuing increase in the incidence among citizens aged 20 to 40 years, which reached the highest level in the current year - 39%, as well as at the age of 40-59 at the level of 25%, that is, every fourth person of this age is infected", - Zh. Bekshin reported.
Along with this data, there is a decrease in the proportion of infections among people over 60 years of age by 1.6% as a result of their immunization and less mobility.
To avoid an increase in the incidence, the Chief Sanitary Physician of the metropolis asked the population to refuse to visit crowded places, not to risk the health and well-being of others.
Zh. Bekshin also reminded of the need to continue using masks and observe the rules for wearing and changing them.
