B. Sagintayev: The delta strain of the coronavirus leaves no choice but to be vaccinated

The akim of the megapolis Bakhytzhan Sagintayev, during the live broadcast of Akimat LIVE on the TV Channel “Almaty”, spoke about the complication of the epidemiological situation and urged Almaty residents to be vaccinated in order to protect their health.

The epidemiological situation in Almaty continues to become more complicated due to the spread of the "delta" strain, recorded by the specialists of the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of the city on June 18, of this year.

In this regard, studies for the presence of mutated COVID strains continued. On July 1, out of 88 samples taken from patients with COVID, 67 samples were found to have "delta" (76%), 14 (16%) had "alpha" (British), 2 - of unknown origin, 3 results were negative (3.4% ), in 1 (1.1%) COVID-19 (Wuhan). Studies from July 3 showed that out of 45 samples from patients, 35 (78%) had the "delta" strain, 6 (13%) had "alpha" and only 1 (2.2%) COVID-19 (Wuhan).

At the same time, experts state a continuing increase in the proportion of symptomatic patients with COVID. Compared to the previous 7 days, this indicator increased 1.5 times, from 46% to 73%. This is due to the prevailing circulation of the delta strain, which causes more severe clinical manifestations of COVID.

An analysis of the age composition over the past 2 weeks showed the previous "targeting" of the virus to children and young people due to the high contagiousness of the "delta" strain. Thus, the proportion of sick children under 1 year of age increased by 0.7% - up to 2.8%; children under 14 years old by 0.4% - up to 15%; adolescents 15-19 years old by 0.8% - up to 5.2% and citizens 40-59 years old - by 1.5% - up to 24.7%.

In this regard, residents of the city need to pay special attention to the condition of children and adolescents, and, if possible, limit visits to crowded places. Middle-aged people should also strengthen compliance with sanitary and epidemiological safety measures.

In terms of the workplace, over the past 14 days, the incidence of COVID still prevails among the self-employed - 35%, employees of various LLPs, individual entrepreneurs, JSCs - 19%, pensioners - 17.4%, as well as schoolchildren - 10.3% and preschool children - 7%, representing 89% of the total number of cases.
