The Head of the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of the city of Almaty, Zhandarbek Bekshin, speaking at the site of the Regional Communications Service, noted that his department is urgently responding to the emergence of new strains of the coronavirus infection.
The city has introduced a new method of express-PCR screening for the determination of COVID-19 strains.
“We have a strain tracking system in our country, we carry out sequencing, that is, monitoring. At the end of March, due to the check, 77% of the circulation of the "British" strain of the coronavirus in Almaty was revealed, already at the end of May this figure rose to 84%. This week we began to work on the indication of the "British", "Indian", "Brazilian", "Danish" and "Vietnamese" strains, "said Zh. Bekshin.
According to the Chief Sanitary Doctor of Almaty, these strains are the most infectious, the course of the disease is difficult. In the city, the infectivity of the "British" strains is high, the townspeople are infected with it twice as often as with the "Wuhan" strain.
Zh. Bekshin said that this knowledge will make it possible to respond correctly and in a timely manner to the epidemiological situation in the city, to stockpile medicines, and to carry out anti-epidemiological measures.
The speaker also noted that 31 studies have already been conducted on five strains in Almaty.
