On June 8, Head of the Almaty City Digitalization Department Bayan Konirbayev and Vice President of the International Information and Analytical Agency International Data Corporation (IDC) Andrey Beklemishev spoke at a briefing of the Regional Communications Service. They talked about the so-called “digital maturity” level, which in four years has grown from “opportunistic” to “repeatable”.
It should be noted, that digital maturity is a key indicator of the degree of a city's readiness to implement digital solutions in its development.
“Digital transformation is a global goal and digital maturity, as one of its key markers, must be achieved at all levels in all industries. In this case, the digital transformation process can be called successful, ”said Bayan Konirbayev.
In his opinion, Almaty has already defined the "Smart City" program, which helps achieve development in this direction.
B. Konirbayev also said that the International Information and Analytical Agency International Data Corporation (IDC) assessed the maturity of Almaty as a "Smart City" in accordance with its own methodology.
“The IDC methodology includes 19 criteria across five dimensions: vision, culture, processes, technology, data. The final score is calculated as the arithmetic mean for each criterion and varies from 0 to 5, ”explained Andrey Beklemishev.
According to the assessment results, in 2021 Almaty scored 2.7 points out of 5 possible. Compared to 2017, the city has significantly improved the result, moving from the “Opportunistic” level to “Repeatable”.
A. Beklemishev explained what factors caused this indicator.
Speaking about the achievements over the past 4 years, B. Konirbayev noted that no city in the world has yet reached the highest level - 5.0. In the Asian region, Singapore (approaching the level of 5.0), Seoul, Dubai, Yokohama show high results. In Europe - London (level 4), Amsterdam, Barcelona. In the CIS region, Moscow is the leader (between the 3rd and 4th level).
Almaty is in the leading group of cities in the CIS and Eastern Europe, ahead of Budapest, Tashkent and Baku.
