Akim of the city Bakhytzhan Sagintayev, during a live broadcast on the TV channel "Almaty", spoke about the development of new priority areas of the economy of the megapolis.
The share of industry, construction, social economy and new industries in the city's economy is insignificant. At the same time, trade, which occupies 33% of the economy, remains archaic, which does not allow the city to develop at a rapid pace.
“Therefore, we are moving towards a structural reform of the urban economy. The focus is on the sectors of the new economy. It is necessary to gradually reduce the share of trade and strengthen the development of productive sectors requiring high qualifications - professional and scientific and technical services, finance and insurance, information and communication technologies, as well as industries of the creative economy, ”B. Sagintayev said.
It is also necessary to take advantage of the convenient geographical position on the transit corridor of the new Silk Road and integrate into international supply and distribution chains as the largest regional transport and logistics hub.
Since Almaty is the largest consumer market in Kazakhstan and occupies the largest share of both wholesale and retail trade in the country, the emphasis will also be placed on the development of logistics potential.
The expansion of the international airport is of great importance for the city. In the near future, the construction of a new terminal of the international airport is planned to to begin. With the construction of the terminal, the passenger traffic is planned to increase by 6 million people a year, the throughput capacity will increase 2.5 times.
