B. Sagintayev: Almaty police are reorganizing to a service model of policing
The akim of the metropolis Bakhytzhan Sagintayev, during a live broadcast on the "Almaty" TV channel, spoke about the work on the prevention of crimes in public places and the new role of the police.
B. Sagintayev noted, that in order to ensure public safety and fight crime, the city akimat proceeds from the importance of carrying out preventive work. The self-organization of the townspeople and the urban community is important here. Together with Apartment Owners' Cooperative (KSK) and Association of Property Owners (OSI), it is necessary to instill in society elements of observation, neighborly supervision and control, timely informing the guards about all cases of offenses.
Much attention is paid to the security in public places of the patrol service. A third of the patrol police regiment was transferred to foot patrols.
This measure has shown its effectiveness. Since the beginning of the year, crime in public places has decreased 3.8 times - from 4,561 to 1,185 cases. In the near future, up to 50% of the regiment's personnel will be transferred to foot patrols.
Akim of the city Bakhytzhan Sagintayev stressed that in this regard, the work of the Almaty police is being reorganized with an emphasis on the service model of policing.
An important role in ensuring public safety is played by the well-being of the city, which should be well-groomed and illuminated at night. Since 2018, the number of street lamps in the city has doubled. Within the framework of the "New Almaty" program, more than 1400 streets were provided with lighting last year. This year, it is planned to install lighting on 601 streets, 69% of which are already lit up today. Work on lighting the city will continue next year. There are also plans to carry out work on lighting 1,066 partially unlit streets and sections of the city, as well as 487 courtyards.
