"The city should be polycentric": B. Sagintayev presented plans for the improvement and landscaping of the city to the townspeople
An online presentation "Development of Almaty in 2021: improvement and gardening projects" was held in Almaty.

The Akim of Almaty Bakhytzhan Sagintayev called the creation of a comfortable environment for the life of our citizens as the main vector of the city's development. Development plans are determined by the Strategy "Almaty-2050".
Measures have been taken to restore the status of a green city. A record number of green spaces were planted in 2020 - 282 thousand seedlings. Most of the landings were carried out in the Alatau, Turksib, Medeu districts. The provision of green spaces for 1 person is 7.7 sq. m, a year ago this figure was 4.6 sq.m. The planting of 350 thousand trees has begun this year. Attention is paid to the care of trees - the treatment of the green fund and the maintenance of biodiversity. New wells have been built for irrigation of green spaces, and aryk network has been inventoried.
B. Sagintayev noted that in pursuance of the instructions of the President, the program a "City without outskirts" was adopted, mainly aimed at solving urgent issues in remote areas of Almaty. A plan was adopted to modernize and create new green areas in the form of parks, squares and equipped pedestrian streets. Despite the quarantine, 22 parks and squares were repaired last year. All this is 284 hectares of a landscaped urban area. The construction of 9 new park zones will begin this year.
Considering that there is a problem of a lack of land, work is underway to return 8 land plots to create new recreations. Also, 2 plots in the square of Kurmangazy, Abylai Khan, Shevchenko, Panfilov streets were returned for the organization of park zones. At the same time, 120 hectares (31%) were transferred for greening the city and preserving the natural landscape, this will create a comfortable environment for citizens.
There are plans to create pedestrian spaces along 17 streets. This year, it is also planned to improve the territory along the Esentai, Zharybulak, Ulken and Kishi Almaty rivers. The design of the Boraldai, Tastybulak, Karagayly rivers has already begun, we will continue Ulken and Kishi Almaty. The main principle is improvement through the preservation of the natural landscape.
An important priority in the work of the city administration is a sustainable urban planning policy. For the first time in the country, within the framework of the "Hearing State", public discussions were held on adjusting the General Plan of the city. Some of the recommendations voiced during the expert and public discussions have already been taken into account in the development of the city building rules.
The rules will make it possible to settle the following issues: restrictions on the sealing development in the historical center, including in courtyards; adjusting the height and changing the facades of buildings; a ban on the demolition of objects historically significant for the city.
