What measures are being taken in Almaty to return it the status of the greenest city, were discussed by the head of the metropolis, Bakhytzhan Sagintayev, during the online presentation "Development of Almaty in 2021: improvement and gardening projects."
With a change in approaches to landscaping, the campaign "Green yard" was launched. Each resident, under the supervision of specialists, can plant trees in his yard or along the road. 600 trees have been planted this weekend alone. The akim of the city expressed gratitude to Almaty residents for their active participation. Similar campaigns will continue.
As the head of the city noted, the main goal is to create a comfortable city for life, and development plans are determined by the Strategy "Almaty-2050". The first and main priority is a "Green City".
The inventory shows that there are 2.6 million trees in the city, but 23% of the trees are in weakened and emergency conditions. Old trees are located in the districts from which the development of our city began - Turksib, Zhetysu, Almalinsky and Bostandyk districts.
“Provision of green spaces for 1 person is 7.7 square meters, although just a year ago, this figure was 4.6 sq. m, while the norm is at least 10 sq. m ", - said Bakhytzhan Sagintayev. Work in this direction continues.
Ecology and landscaping are the most sensitive points for the townspeople. The city authorities have already taken a number of measures to return the status of a green and recognizable city.
Hence, in September 2019, the Zhasyl Almaty program was announced, the main goal of which is not just restoration, but the development of the city's green fund.
A record number of green spaces were planted in 2020 - 282 thousand seedlings. Most of the landings were carried out in Alatau - 187 thousand, Turksib - 46 thousand and Medeu - 21 thousand districts.
Planting of 350 thousand trees has begun this year. In the spring, 50 thousand trees will be planted, the main plantings will be in the autumn, as this is the most favorable time of the year.
Together, with big plans for landscaping, the very policy of landscaping has changed dramatically.
Moving from uncontrolled planting to taking care of trees - treating the green fund and maintaining biodiversity. New wells have been built for irrigation of green spaces in Almaty, the "aryk" network has been inventoried.
