In Almaty, the prospects for the development of the green fund of the megalopolis were discussed. During an online briefing at the Republican Communication Service Almaty site, Natalya Livinskaya, Head of the City Department of Green Economy, reported on the results of 2020.
According to the speaker, the bulk of planting of green spaces is planned in the annexed districts - Alatau and Nauryzbaysky. This will be carried out within the framework of the programs "New Almaty" and a "City without suburbs".
“As part of the order of the Head of State on large-scale landscaping, and on behalf of the Akim of Almaty to restore the status of a garden city and a million trees, a record number of green spaces were planted in 2020 - more than 280 thousand trees. For comparison: in previous years, an average of 40 thousand trees were planted. Most of the trees were planted in the Alatau, Turksib and Nauryzbay districts, ”N. Livinskaya noted.
At the same time, the development of the Greening Strategy of the city of Almaty until 2030 is nearing completion. Places for new green zones have been identified, measures have been developed to renew the green fund with cutting down old-growth and emergency trees and planting trees and shrubs that are resistant to air pollution. A list of green spaces was approved, taking into account the zoning of urban areas.
Within the framework of the Almaty-2025 Development Program, the task was set to create a “green network” of the city, which would unite the city's ecosystem and support biodiversity.
“In 2020, we launched a campaign for the free distribution of seedlings to residents of Almaty. So, our specialists delivered more than 580 deciduous seedlings to Almaty residents. We plan to continue this campaign this spring. In 2021, we plan to plant more than 300 thousand trees throughout the city. One million green spaces will be planted in just three years. So, we want to return Almaty the status of a garden city, ”said the head of the Department.
The Akimat is also conducting certification of green spaces, as a result of which a huge database of trees, conifers, shrubs and flowers will be created. It will contain information about the age, diameter, condition of green spaces. As noted in the Office, the register will be submitted in March, this year.
Special attention is paid to the creation of park zones and public spaces in the districts of "New Almaty". Thus, trees have been planted in the Zerdeli microdistrict and along the bed of the Boraldai River, and parks are being created in these areas. Two more park areas are planned along the pond in the microdistricts Ozhet and Alatau.
“Last year we opened one of the large-scale projects of the akimat - the Zheltoksan park in the Turksib district of Almaty. Its area is 55 hectares. The recreational area includes the embankment of the Airport Lake and park areas. We have planted 100 conifers here. A design and estimate documentation for the improvement and landscaping of the Mayak grove near the Airport Lake is also planned to be developed, "N. Livinskaya shared.
The construction and reconstruction of the Druzhba and Karasu parks are nearing completion. As noted in the Office, both projects were made jointly with local residents.
